Spaniard is eager to win silverware with Betis before he retires

Real Betis are in talks with midfielder Isco over a new contract that will see him earn as much as the club’s current highest earner Antony.

The club are eager to secure the midfielder’s future beyond the end of his current deal, after sterling performances for Betis last season. Talks have progressed over the past week, with Betis confident an agreement can be reached by the end of November.

Isco joined Betis as a free agent in 2023. The player’s current contract runs out in 2027 and the new deal is expected to extend that to 2028.

Antony joined Betis on an initial loan from Manchester United in January 2025, before making the move permanent for €25m in the summer after impressive performances for Los Verdiblancos.

The deal the Brazilian signed made him the club’s highest-paid player, but according to reports, it prompted Betis to revisit Isco’s terms in order to reflect his status as captain and key player in the squad and maintain balance within the dressing room.

Isco and Antony were the two key pieces in a Betis team that reached the Uefa Conference League final last season, the first time the club had made it to the final of a European competition. They lost 4-1 to Chelsea in Wroclaw.

But Isco still has a dream of winning silverware with Betis before he retires. The club last won a trophy in the 2021-22 season when they claimed the Copa del Rey.

“I don’t want to retire without winning a title with Betis,” Isco said. “The renewal is still up in the air but it will be easy. Both Betis and I want to extend our journey together.

“Hopefully, it will be for many more years. I want to play in the new stadium. I hope they reach an agreement soon regarding the construction, otherwise I won’t have time to do so. Playing in the new stadium would be a very important and wonderful challenge.”
