Spain international had a case of gastroenteritis but is still likely to return against Chelsea
Barcelona midfielder Pedri missed a training session on Thursday but this is understood to have been due to an illness.
The 22-year-old is currently recovering from a hamstring injury sustained in the first clásico of the season last month. He had been due to partake in parts of Thursday’s session but was unable to take part after suffering gastroenteritis, according to AS.
Pedri is close to a return but club staff are being cautious of rushing his return, so he is unlikely to feature for Barcelona at the weekend against Athletic Club. Instead he is more likely to return to the squad for the Champions League fixture against Chelsea next week.
The expectation inside the camp is that he will receive final medical clearance next week and, if all goes to plan, be available for the Champions League trip to London.
In another boost for the club goalkeeper Joan Garcia has returned to training and is likely to feature against Athletic on Saturday. Winger Raphinha is also close to a return. The Brazilian joined Tuesday’s training as he continues to work his way back to the pitch, having already missed 10 games this season.
