Midfielder expected to return against Chelsea next week but Garcia could feature at the weekend
Barcelona have been handed a significant injury boost, with both Pedri and goalkeeper Joan Garcia set to return to the squad.
Pedri sustained an injury in his left thigh during the defeat to Real Madrid and was ruled out for around three to five weeks. The injury deprived Barcelona of their main man in midfield but there was some expectation that he could return after the international break.
He may not be ready for the home game against Athletic Club on 22 November, but may well be available for the Champions League meeting with Chelsea three days later. Even if his return could be accelerated to meet the weekend’s fixture against Athletic, Barcelona will be careful not take risks with him given their injury troubles so far this season.
Garcia’s recovery is also welcome news for the La Liga champions. Before suffering a knee injury in late September, the goalkeeper had impressed for Flick’s side, keeping three clean sheets in seven appearances and conceding only five goals. In his absence Barcelona’s defensive lapses have been punished far more, with the veteran Wojciech Szczesny not quite at the level of the 24-year-old.
The international break has given Garcia room to complete his recovery and he could now line up for Barcelona against Athletic on Saturday.
