Award winner to be announced during ceremony in Rabat, Morocco on 19 November 2025
Mohamed Salah, Victor Osimhen and Achraf Hakimi have been selected as the three finalists for the 2024 African Player of the Year award, the Confederation of African Football (Caf) has confirmed.
Egypt’s Salah is bidding to reclaim the award for the first time since winning it back-to-back in 2017 and 2018. The Liverpool forward delivered one of the best seasons of his career in 2024-25, producing 29 goals and 18 assists as the club ran away with the Premier League.
His name is individual performance earned him both the Golden Boot and the PFA Player of the Year award, becoming the first player to win the latter prize three times.
Nigeria’s Osimhen made the final shortlist after firing Galatasaray to the Turkish league and cup double. His 26 league goals earned him the Golden Boot in Turkey, raising a reputation as one of the best strikers in Europe.
Morocco captain Hakimi may well be the favourite after helping Paris Saint-Germain to their first Champions League triumph this year. He also won the Ligue 1 title, the French Cup and the European Super Cup to complete a glittering year.
