Defender joins Mbappe and Camavinga on list of Madrid players with fitness concerns this international window

Real Madrid defender Dean Huijsen could be facing a spell on the sidelines after missing Spain’s World Cup qualifier against Georgia on Saturday due to a groin problem.

Huijsen was left out of the matchday squad after feeling discomfort in training on Friday.

According to reports, the decision was precautionary and the defender will now undergo tests to confirm whether he is fine or has suffered a new injury setback.

The 20-year-old has become an important part of Xabi Alonso’s squad since joining from Bournemouth in the summer, making 13 appearances across all competitions so far this season.

Madrid’s next league match is a trip to Elche on 23 November and, if fit, Huijsen would be expected to feature. Los Blancos sit top of the table with 31 points, three clear of rivals Barcelona.

Huijsen also missed Spain’s qualifiers against Georgia and Bulgaria in October for fitness reasons.

Teammate and France captain Kylian Mbappe also pulled out of France’s squad this week due to an ankle problem. It was not thought to be serious. The forward had been carrying the discomfort for several weeks and both club and country agreed that continuing with the squad was unnecessary.

Eduardo Camavinga also left the France squad without featuring at all this international window, after suffering a minor hamstring strain.
