Player’s condition is not life-threatening but he is considering whether to hang up his boots and focus on recovery

It is understood that Oscar will have a discussion with his family as to whether the best course of action is to hang up his boots and focus on recovery.

Former Chelsea player Oscar is considering retirement after being admitted to hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil this week with a heart issue.

The 34-year-old was hospitalised on Tuesday and medical personal said he has a common type of fainting condition called vasovagal syncope.

In a statement issued on Thursday, his current club Sao Paulo said he “remains clinically well and stable” and is being monitored in the cardiology unit.

Oscar acknowledged the scare on social media, telling supporters: “Everything will be alright, God willing.”

The Brazilian made more than 200 appearances for Chelsea between 2012 and 2017 before moving to Shanghai Port, China in a high-profile transfer that reportedly made him one of the best-paid players in world football.

Last season, having turned 33 he decided to move back to Brazil and signed a three-year deal with Sao Paulo, the club where he had started out as an academy player.

The player’s current condition is not considered life-threatening, but Brazilian outlet Globo reported the midfielder is seriously considering retirement, given that he is already 34 years old.

It is understood that Oscar will have a discussion with his family as to whether the best course of action is to hang up his boots and focus on recovery.
