Marc-Andre ter Stegen is reportedly considering a loan move away from Barcelona in January, with Turkish giants Besiktas emerging as strong contenders.

The German goalkeeper is “carefully assessing” his future, according to Sport. After a period out through injury, he is expected to be fully available again by December, and both he and Barcelona believe a decision must be made soon.

Besiktas have a long-standing interest and have renewed contact with Ter Stegen and his representatives. According to sources familiar with the negotiations, they are proposing a short-term deal that would grant Ter Stegen a guaranteed starting role, including in European competition.

The Turkish club are offering to cover part of his wages, which would appeal to Barcelona.

A permanent transfer move for the player appears unlikely, even if Barcelona would ideally wish to get him completely off their books.

If a deal is done, it would give Ter Stegen the opportunity to play for a spot in the Germany squad in next year’s World Cup, as he almost certainly cannot get any minutes at Barcelona where he is third choice behind Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szszcesny.
