After a slow start, the France international is beginning to prove his worth in Pep Guardiola’s team
Kylian Mbappe has praised France teammate Rayan Cherki as a “spectacular talent” following the Manchester City midfielder’s impressive run of form in the Premier League.
Cherki joined City from Lyon in the summer after a breakout season in Ligue 1 when he produced 13 goals and 21 assists across all competitions.
His form earned him a move to City and a first senior call-up from Didier Deschamps in June.
The player was mostly on the fringes for the first few weeks at the Etihad after an early setback with a thigh injury, but he is beginning to prove his worth in Pep Guardiola’s team.
Since returning to fitness, Cherki has made nine appearances for City, providing three goals and three assists. He was instrumental in the 3-1 win over Bournemouth earlier this month, setting up both of Erling Haaland’s goals and laying down early signs of a productive partnership between the two.
France captain Mbappe said: “He’s a special talent. I think he has a gift, which he’s making the most of. It’s an innate, spectacular talent. He’s integrated very well into the group and into Manchester City, which isn’t easy. I hope he continues like this.”
