Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann is focused on securing World Cup qualification with two wins in their remaining matches, setting his sights on winning the tournament.
Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann is determined to lead his team to World Cup qualification, with a focus on securing two wins in their remaining matches. The Germans, currently top of Group A, will face Luxembourg on Friday and host Slovakia on November 14th, with a view to securing top spot and automatic qualification.
“We want to have a good balance in the squad,” Nagelsmann said, emphasizing the importance of covering every position. “The most important thing is to be successful in these games, get the six points, and qualify for the World Cup.”
Nagelsmann has been praised for his approach, which prioritizes experience and consistency. However, he has also been criticized for ignoring certain players, including VfB Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller. The coach explained that Stiller’s development is on the right track, but other players are currently ahead of him in the squad.
“I talked to Angelo, and his development is going in the right direction,” Nagelsmann said. “But on the six position with Felix Nmecha and Aleksandar Pavlovic, I see them slightly ahead at the moment. Angelo needs to continue his rising form.”
Germany’s recent form has been encouraging, with three wins in their last three qualifiers. However, Nagelsmann is aware that they cannot afford to slip up, given the high stakes.
“We don’t have the luxury of another slip-up,” Nagelsmann said, referencing their surprise 2-0 loss to Slovakia in September. “We have improved, and the starting conditions are good, but we still need to complete the task.”
