Striker’s contract runs out in 2026 but it is unclear if the club will offer an extension

Robert Lewandowski has said he remains focused on performing for Barcelona this season but admits he is “thinking about what’s best” for his future as speculation continues over a potential departure next summer.

The 37-year-old striker has scored 105 goals in 157 appearances since joining Barcelona in 2022, but his contract runs out in 2026 and it is unclear whether the club will choose to renew or sign a new centre-forward instead.

Barcelona have been linked to both Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.

Lewandowski said: “I feel good. Physically, I feel very good. I’m playing a few minutes with the team, and for me, the most important thing is how I can help my team win matches.

“As for my future, I’m calm. I’m thinking about what’s best for me. For now, I have things to work on.

“I only have the club and the national team on my mind, to do better and score goals. A lot can happen in life. But I’m happy and focused this season on scoring goals and winning titles.”

Lewandowski was out for several weeks due to injury but returned for Barcelona’s 3-1 win over Elche on Sunday. The Poland captain said he feels stronger as he follows medical plans designed to manage his workload and recovery.

“At the end of last season, I had some problems, but now I’m fine,” said Lewandowski. “When you have a lot of games in a season, it’s important to be at your best at the end.

“I’ve had two injuries, but I’ve been working really well in the last two weeks, and now I’m at a high level.”

The veteran also hinted that any decision on his future will depend on how he feels at the end of the campaign.

“I’m not in a hurry,” he said. “In the end, the most important thing will be how I feel once the season is over. I’ll have to see what to do with my life, but right now I’m focused on scoring goals and winning titles with the team.”
