Chelsea beat Tottenham Hotspur, and the biggest relief for Maresca will be the fact that he finished the game with 11 men.

Chelsea travelled to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to face a Tottenham side that was ahead of them in the Premier League table.

For this game, the three points mattered for both sides as a win for Chelsea would close the gap between them and other teams in the top four, while a win for Tottenham would take them closer to Arsenal, who are pulling away in the title race.

In a tightly contested affair,  the game was going to be defined by fine margins. Both teams were evenly matched for most of the game, and it was going to take a moment of magic to separate both sides and Chelsea produced it.

After missing a 1v1 earlier, João Pedro put Chelsea ahead in the 34th minute after getting a pass in front of goal from Moises Caicedo.  

Chelsea could’ve made it 2-0 or 3-0 but it just didn’t happen for them as Gittens and João Pedro missed two crucial chances to put the game to bed.

In other news, Maresca will be delighted with the result and the fact that his team finished the game without a red card.

Chelsea will take this win as a boost as they face Qarabag in the Champions League during the week, while for Tottenham, it’s back to the drawing board to ensure they avoid a defeat against Copenhagen.
