Enzo Maresca confirms rotation plans for Chelsea’s Carabao Cup clash with Wolves, with Liam Delap available for selection for the first time since August.
Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Chelsea will undergo significant rotation for their Carabao Cup clash with Wolves, with key players like Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, and Joao Pedro likely to be rested.
The Blues head coach cited the need to protect players, given the upcoming London derby with Tottenham and Champions League trip to Qarabag.
“We need to rotate,” Maresca stated, emphasizing the importance of managing the squad’s workload. “We need to protect the players because if we go with the same XI, we are going to struggle during the season.”
Liam Delap, the summer signing from Ipswich Town, is available for selection for the first time since August, having recovered from a hamstring injury. Maresca warned that Delap will need to be managed carefully, and it’s unlikely he’ll play the full 90 minutes.
Delap’s availability is a boost for Chelsea, who will look to secure a place in the last-eight of the League Cup. Maresca is expected to make changes, but the extent of the rotation remains uncertain.
“We probably will make some changes against Wolves, I don’t know how many,” Maresca said. “For sure, we need to make some to rotate and help protect the players.”
