Manager urges focus and unity amid pressure following poor run of results

Liverpool manager Arne Slot says recent losses haven’t changed the mentality his side brings to every game.

After opening the season strongly, with seven wins in a row, the Premier League champions have now followed that up by losing four straight games in all competitions, against Crystal Palace, Galatasaray, Chelsea and Manchester United.

It has seen them fall behind Arsenal and Manchester City despite threatening to be runaway league leaders in August and September.

The losses have also come amid poor performances, with Liverpool particularly open at the back and several key players underperforming. It has piled pressure on the Dutchman to win his upcoming games and arrest the slide, but Slot said his side were always going to approach those fixtures with a strong desire to win.

“It should not matter if we win or lose a game of football for the next one,” said Slot. “The aim is if you play for Liverpool if you wear this shirt, the aim is to win every single game.

“So if we win seven in a row how we started this season, then we want to win the next three. And we didn’t, now we’ve lost the last four, so now of course we want to see Liverpool winning again.

“But like I said, that is not different than when you’ve lost four in a row or won four in a row.”
