AC Milan comes from behind to beat Fiorentina 2-1 at San Siro, climbing to the top of Serie A with a dramatic comeback win.
AC Milan has climbed to the summit of Serie A after a thrilling 2-1 win over Fiorentina at San Siro.
The hosts had to overturn a one-goal deficit to claim the victory, which was made possible by Rafael Leão’s stunning solo effort and a late penalty goal.
Milan had started the game brightly, but struggled to find the back of the net, with Fikayo Tomori and Strahinja Pavlovic wasting gilt-edged chances. Fiorentina took advantage of Milan’s lethargy, scoring through Robin Gosens’ goal-mouth scramble in the 55th minute.
However, Leão’s stunning solo effort in the 67th minute turned the game on its head. The Portuguese forward cut inside and rifled a low drive from 25 yards into the bottom corner, sending San Siro into raptures.
Milan continued to press for a winner, and their persistence paid off in the 85th minute. VAR intervened to award Milan a penalty, which Leão converted with ease, sending David De Gea the wrong way to complete his brace.
The visitors had nothing left in the tank after the penalty, and Milan comfortably saw out the result.
The win takes Milan to the top of Serie A, while Fiorentina remains in the relegation zone.
