Liverpool host the Red Devils on the back of three straight losses in all competitions
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has called on the Anfield crowd to make their presence felt when his side face Manchester United in a “special” fixture on Sunday.
The Dutch coach said his players will need full backing from the home supporters as they look to respond from a poor run of form.
Liverpool have lost three straight matches in all competitions, their worst spell since Slot took charge, and they face a United team the manager believes are stronger than their current league position suggests.
“I look forward to every single Premier League game, but maybe even more towards the Manchester United one because I know how special it is, and I have experienced it last season, how special of a game it is,” said Slot.
“We know that it is probably the game that has been watch the most all over the world.
“It’s special to be part of it but in the end it’s also a game where we have to be at our best because United, in my opinion, have had a better start to the season than maybe the league table is showing.
“So yes, it’s a very interesting game and a game to look forward to, especially because it’s played at Anfield.”
Liverpool’s manager admitted his side’s recent slump has been difficult to take but urged fans to stay behind the team.
Slot said: “I think our fans have been so supportive for us, as long as I’ve been here – and long before I was here – and I think they understand that the team that has lost three times in a row, they need to be ready, our team, but I think our fans can help us and will help us on Sunday.”
