Veteran striker remained on the pitch for Poland even when he felt discomfort

Barcelona are reportedly unhappy with Robert Lewandowski after the striker suffered a muscle injury while on international duty with Poland.

The 37-year-old felt discomfort in his thigh during his nation’s recent win over Lithuania but chose to play through the pain, completing the full 90 minutes and even scoring in the second half.

Subsequent scans revealed a muscle tear in the same area he had previously injured earlier in the season, leaving Barcelona without their leading striker for up to four weeks.

He is now set to miss the clásico on 26 October, with Barcelona already missing several attacking players through injury.

Figures inside the club are frustrated with Lewandowski’s decision to stay on the pitch despite feeling the problem in the first half, according to Marca.

The feeling is that a player of his experience should have recognised the risks and asked to be substituted.

Besides Lewandowski, Flick is still without Dani Olmo, Raphinha, Joan Garcia and Gavi. Lamine Yamal was injured but has returned to training, even if he is not fit enough to play against Girona on Saturday. Fermin Lopez is also back in training.
