Portugal star Rafael Leão has withdrawn from the national team due to a muscular injury, and will miss the World Cup qualifier against Hungary.
Portugal’s national team has confirmed that Rafael Leão will not participate in their upcoming World Cup qualifier against Hungary due to an injury. The decision to dismiss Leão from the squad was made by coach Roberto Martínez after assessing the player’s physical condition.
Leão picked up a muscular injury to his calf during Milan’s Coppa Italia victory against Bari in August and has been working his way back to full fitness.
Despite not being at 100% fitness, Martínez had called Leão up for international duty, but the player will now return to Milan to focus on his rehabilitation.
According to reports, Leão will begin individual training on Monday, despite the rest of the Milan squad having another three days off. The 26-year-old is reportedly pushing to be available as a starter for Milan’s upcoming Serie A clash against Fiorentina on Sunday.
