32-year-old’s current deal expires in June 2026
Manchester United have begun negotiations with Harry Maguire over a contract extension.
The club are keen to extend the defender’s stay before his current deal expires at the end of the season.
Although Maguire has not been a guaranteed starter under manager Ruben Amorim this season, he has still featured in six of United’s seven Premier League matches so far and remains a trusted squad member.
Amorim often looks to him to come in and provide added defensive security late in games. The defender also impressed last season and even helped produce some important late goals up front.
Maguire joined United from Leicester City in 2019 for a then-world record £80m fee for a defender.
He struggled in his early years at Old Trafford and faced a lot of criticism and abuse, but he eventually managed to turn things around, earning renewed respect among teammates and supporters.
Amorim has also previously hinted that he considers Maguire an important leadership figure in the dressing room.
Maguire Hints at New Deal After Manchester United Reject Interest from Other Clubs
“I’m pretty sure the club have made it clear this summer that I can’t leave on any terms with other clubs enquiring about things and my position with my contract,” Maguire said in a recent interview.
“I have something in my mind about what I want to do and what I want to be. I don’t want to put it out there to everybody but [Manchester United] is an amazing club to play for and you’d be silly if you wanted to jump out of it as soon as you could.”
