Striker “hurting” but says the team are ready to react on the pitch
Robert Lewandowski has said Barcelona must respond positively after their 4-1 defeat to Sevilla.
The striker missed a penalty as Barcelona were well beaten in Seville on Sunday, just days after losing to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
Hansi Flick’s side looked short of energy, with defensive lapses and a poor showing in front of goal summing up a performance that has been described as their worst under the German.
Lewandowski admitted the performance fell far below expectations and said the team must use the defeat as motivation.
“Matches like that happen, that’s football,” Lewandowski said from Poland’s national team camp. “Things don’t always turn out the way you want them to. Missed penalties are part of the game.”
“It hurts, but we have to react positively. These moments can make us stronger, and we have to show that on the pitch when we return.”
Barcelona return from the international break facing a crucial run of fixtures, including the clásico on 29 October. Flick’s side remain only two points behind Real Madrid at the top of La Liga, but back-to-back defeats have raised doubts about their season.
