Midfielder says Catalans must be ready to work hard and fix things immediately after the international break

Barcelona midfielder Pedri admitted his side were well below their usual standards after a 4-1 loss to Sevilla on Sunday handed them their first La Liga defeat of the season.

The home side raced into a two-goal lead after Alexis Sanchez scored from the penalty spot and Isaac Romero added a second just after the half-hour mark.

Marcus Rashford’s volley brought Barcelona back in it, but Robert Lewandowski missed a penalty after the break and two late goals sealed the win for Sevilla.

“We have to be honest with ourselves, I don’t think we’ve ever played as badly as we did today,” said Pedri.

“The first half was dreadful. There was no intensity or quality with the ball. We didn’t know how to play through their press. We didn’t know what to do with the ball.”

The defeat followed last week’s Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain, marking the first time Barcelona have lost back-to-back games since December 2024.

Pedri urged his teammates to be ready to work hard and get back to winning ways after the international break.

“We have to improve a lot of things,” said the 22-year-old. “The coach and us, the players, will work hard to improve them after the break so that this doesn’t happen again.”
