Defender has trained with the reserves after a loan move away failed on deadline day
Manchester United outcast Tyrell Malacia has been recalled to first-team training after spending the early part of the season working with the under-21s.
The 26-year-old full-back had been among the group of players deemed surplus to requirements in the summer, alongside Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Antony.
All of the others left Old Trafford but Malacia remained after a proposed move to Elche collapsed on deadline day.
He has trained with the under-21s since but the plan at United was always to reintegrate any player who failed to secure a move away in the summer.
Malacia became Erik ten Hag’s first signing in 2022 and featured regularly during his debut season, competing successfully with Luke Shaw.
However, he sustained a knee injury that sidelined him for over a year. He returned last year and made eight appearances under Amorim, before joining PSV Eindhoven on loan, where he won the Eredivisie. But further injuries hindered his search for a new club once the window opened.
United will now assess Malacia’s fitness as he rejoins senior training, with the Dutch international aiming to work his way back into contention.
