Chelsea Fall At The Bridge

Chelsea were once again dreadful as they lost 3-1 to Brighton at Stamford Bridge.

It’s more losses than wins for Chelsea in their last five games as they fell at Stamford Bridge to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Chelsea started the game calmly and were showing signs that despite the injury-ridden defence, they may have readjusted.

In the first half, they didn’t allow Brighton any space and in the 24th minute, they were rewarded with a goal as Enzo Fernandez headed in from a Reece James cross.

But the story was far from over as Chelsea went back to square one.

Santos got caught with the ball under his feet. His attempt to clear the ball set Ayari through on goal and Chalobah’s attempt to close down the attacker saw him get a red card. With the red card, fans had flashes of the game against Manchester United and although Chelsea were solid for 20 minutes, it just wasn’t their day.

Welbeck pulled Brighton level in the 77th minute and from there, the Seagulls were in full control. Maresca’s defensive substitutions did little to cover the frailty of that backline as Brighton added two goals in 6 minutes to win the game 3-1.

For Chelsea, this is another bitter lesson. Although they haven’t dropped from the top 10 yet, results like this are moments away from plummeting the squad.

Chelsea face Liverpool next and they will be without Chalobah, Tosin, Colwill and Fofana. It’s not a good look for the World Champions right now.
