This fixture should be approached with caffeine and some light reading

Manchester United travel to the Gtech Community Stadium seeking back-to-back wins for the first time under Ruben Amorim. It’s been a stop-start-reverse feeling under the Portuguese so far, but at the 32nd time of asking, will that sputtering engine finally get going?

United won against Chelsea last time out amid an apocalyptic deluge that saw red cards on both sides within the first 45 minutes, but strange to say, they can expect a tougher test against the Bees. They are winless in their last three at the Gtech, losing twice and earning a draw once.

Their last meeting was a seven-goal affair that saw United go ahead first, and then concede three times, including a Luke Shaw own goal, before attempting a late comeback that looked probable but was ended by the whistle.

There have been vast changes on both sides since, most notably the departure of Christian Norgaard, Yoane Wissa and manager Thomas Frank on the side of the Bees, and the switch of Bryan Mbeumo from the Gtech to Old Trafford. The Cameroonian was a fan favourite at the Gtech but will be seeking his second Premier League goal for the Red Devils against them on Saturday.

Brentford haven’t started this season particularly well. They’ve lost three of their five Premier League fixtures so far, drawing one and winning only one. Can manager Keith Andrews inspire a result against the visitors?

Team News

Amad Diallo is unavailable for Manchester United after being granted a compassionate leave for a family bereavement. Noussair Mazraoui is also unavailable with a knock. Casemiro is suspended after his red card against Chelsea, while Lisandro Martinez is a long-term absentee.

However, there is good news with Diogo Dalot returning to training, and he could feature at right wing-back in place of the other options Mazraoui and Amad.

With Casemiro absent, youngster Kobbie Mainoo could get a first Premier League start alongside captain Bruno Fernandes in midfield. The academy graduate has been restless after starting all of United’s league games so far on the bench. Alternatively, Amorim could extended his misery – not intentionally of course – by starting Manuel Ugarte, who has also yet to kick into gear at the club.

For Brentford, there are doubts over Reiss Nelson, Paris Maghoma and Gustavo Nunes, but former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson will be available to face United.
