Winger could be available for Sunday’s league game against Real Sociedad

Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal has announced he has recovered from injury and is ready to make a return to the pitch.

The 18-year-old has not played for the club since sustaining a groin injury during the September international break. He has missed four games in all competitions but announced his comeback on Friday by posting his highlight reel on social media, with a comment that said: “Hey! I’m back”.

The winger could be available for Sunday’s La Liga match against Real Sociedad, although it is possible that this is delayed until the midweek fixture against Paris Saint-Germain, to give him more room for full recovery, especially after the club have been hit by so many injuries in recent weeks.

Alejandro Balde is out with a hamstring problem, while Midfielder Fermin Lopez is sidelined with a muscle injury picked up against Getafe. Midfielder Gavi is also ruled out for up to five months after knee surgery.

Yamal’s absence has not been felt as deeply as it could have been, thanks in part to the impressive performances of Marcus Rashford.

Before his injury, Yamal had scored twice and provided two assists in his opening three league appearances. But Rashford has now scored two goals and provided three assists for the club. He scored a brace to lead the club past Newcastle at St James Park, and most recently provided an assist for Ronald Araujo to seal a 3-1 win at Oviedo.

However, Raphinha was also substituted during the match with what looked like an injury, although manager Hansi Flick has said the move was mostly precautionary.
