Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta believes Eberechi Eze has plenty more to offer after scoring his first goal for the club in a 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Port Vale.
Eberechi Eze has officially opened his scoring account for Arsenal, and manager Mikel Arteta couldn’t be happier. Eze’s first goal for the club came in the 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Port Vale, where he struck just eight minutes into the match.
Despite the early goal, Arsenal struggled to create clear opportunities, but Leandro Trossard’s 86th-minute strike sealed the win.
Arteta praised Eze’s performance, saying he played very centrally against a well-organized Port Vale side. “He played very centrally against a team that went 5-4-1, super-compact inside, it’s not easy to find the space, but he’s very capable with the goal and with another three or four actions that he is completely through and [playing] people through,” Arteta said.
The Arsenal manager believes Eze still has plenty more to give, and that he needs more time to develop his understanding with his teammates.
“He still needs to play a little bit more with those guys to understand the timings, especially the things that he needs to do, and then actions like that will be more consistent and better for us,” Arteta added.
Arteta said that the 27-year-old was calm and comfortable in possession, which allowed him to create scoring opportunities. “In general, very good, there is still a lot more to give I think,” Arteta said.
The win over Port Vale was a positive result for Arsenal, and the team will look to build on this momentum in their upcoming matches. The Gunners face Brighton in the next round. For now, their attention will be on Newcastle United who they face in the Premier League on Sunday
