Magpies boss hails new striker Woltemade after an impressive start for the club

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has said he hopes the team can evolve into a better team without Alexander Isak, although he admitted this might take time.

The club have started the season in poor form, particularly in attacking areas, after a third goalless draw out of five left them 13th in the Premier League table.

It has highlighted the big hole left by Alexander Isak, who joined Liverpool in a £125m Premier League record transfer this summer.

“I think just naturally we’re going to be a different team attacking-wise this year without Alex,” said Howe. “I’m hopeful we’re evolving to a different team, hopefully a better team, but it may take a bit of time.”

Close to deadline day the club signed Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart for a £70m fee to replace Isak. The German has started both of Newcastle’s last two games in the league, scoring on his debut against Wolves, but unable to follow that up with more end product in a tough game at the Vitality Stadium.

“I thought Nick played really well [against Bournemouth],” said Howe. “I thought he was very effective with his footwork and his link play.

“But we just need to know and get used to him and his style more and get more runners off him because he’s very good in that respect.”
