Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany talks about the team’s options at left-back after Josip Stanisic’s injury.
Bayern Munich’s 3-1 win over Chelsea in the Champions League came at a cost, with Josip Stanisic forced off the field due to a knee problem. Stanisic is set to miss Saturday’s Bundesliga match against Hoffenheim, and Vincent Kompany is now faced with a challenge in finding a suitable replacement.
At a press conference on Friday, Kompany discussed the situation at left-back, saying, “You’ll see tomorrow what our plan is there. There aren’t many options left with Josip Stanisic now out.”
Kompany also provided an update on Stanisic’s injury, stating that it’s a short-term issue and the player will likely miss a few games. “We hope he can be back after the international break,” Kompany added.
Raphael Guerreiro’s status for the match is uncertain, as he hasn’t trained this week. Kompany said, “We’ll see with Raphael Guerreiro how he is.” If Guerreiro is unavailable, Sacha Boey appears to be the most likely candidate to step in at left-back. Boey came off the bench to replace Stanisic against Chelsea and impressed with his performance.
Kompany expressed his confidence in Boey, saying, “I said clearly when it was about the size of the squad that it’s important that I have just confidence in every player I have. There are no exceptions. Sacha is part of that. His performance against Chelsea was very good.” Kompany’s focus is on the squad as a whole, rather than individual players.
The injury to Stanisic has left Bayern Munich with limited options at left-back, but Kompany is determined to find a solution. “We’ll deal with it with the guys we have,” he said. With Boey potentially starting against Hoffenheim, Kompany may also consider other options, such as deploying Konrad Laimer as a makeshift left-back.
As Bayern Munich prepares to face Hoffenheim, Kompany’s ability to adapt to the injury crisis will be put to the test. The team’s depth and squad strength will be crucial in determining their success in the upcoming matches.
