Early assessments suggest the defender could be unavailable for around two months
Real Madrid have confirmed that Antonio Rudiger will be out for an extended period after suffering a muscle injury in his left leg.
The club issued a statement on Friday confirming that the 32-year-old defender has sustained damage to his rectus femoris and will undergo further tests to determine the full extent of the problem.
Early assessments suggest he could be unavailable for around two months.
Rudiger was a mainstay for Madrid last season, featuring 55 times across all competitions. However, he was ruled out of the season in April after having surgery on a knee problem.
He has played just once in La Liga this season, in the 3-0 win over Real Oviedo, having missed Madrid’s opening fixture through suspension from a red card carried over from last term, and then been benched against Real Mallorca.
His absence leaves Xabi Alonso short of options in central defence. Eder Militao is fit again after spending most of last season on the sidelines due to a cruciate ligament tear, but new signing Dean Huijsen might be unavailable for a few games after his red card against Real Sociedad.
