Head coach wants to give new signing Senne Lammens time and the right environment to adapt at the club

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has said the club are working on creating the right environment for new signings to thrive given the intense pressure at the club.

United take on Manchester City this Sunday but Amorim has ruled out an early debut for 23-year-old goalkeeper Senne Lammens, who was signed from Royal Antwerp on deadline day for a guaranteed fee of £18.2m, citing a need to carefully bed in the player.

United’s manager said a challenging decade had made the club a hot zone for players, although he pointed out there were top footballers who struggled to succeed at the club in the past despite the structure it had.

“We are building stability at the club to make new players better,” said Amorim. “If you go back into the past, this club had a really good base with Roy Keane, Gary Neville, all of these types of guys, but I remember world-class players like [Juan-Sebastian] Veron had problems.

“It’s not something that is happening now. It’s happening now because we cannot win a lot of titles and that adds more pressure to every player, but we’ve had these kind of moments at this kind of club.

“We will try to build stability and a base to help all of these players and we are building that. But in this moment, it’s really hard for different players to adapt to this club.”

Amorim confirmed that Turkey international Altay Bayindir would start in goal for the tough trip to the Etihad, even though he has been heavily scrutinised for his performances so far.

Bayindir has started each of United’s three Premier League games but has been a continuous target during set-pieces due to his inability to dominate his box.

“This week I hope to see Altay Bayindir doing well like Van der Sar,” said Amorim. “Then in the future, they [Bayindir and Lammens] have to fight for the places. We as a team can help the goalkeepers be better. We are doing that.”
