AC Milan’s Massimiliano Allegri plans to utilize Rafael Leao as a centre-forward.

AC Milan’s head coach, Massimiliano Allegri, is set to gamble on Rafael Leao as a centre-forward, a position where the 26-year-old showed promise during the club’s pre-season matches.

Leao’s return to availability after an injury sustained in the Coppa Italia clash with Bari has given Allegri more options to experiment with. The Portuguese forward’s pace and skillset could prove invaluable in AC Milan’s attacking lineup.

Allegri’s decision to play Leao as a centre-forward will likely be influenced by the team’s formation. Whether it’s a 3-5-2 or a 4-3-2-1 “Christmas Tree” formation, Leao’s versatility and ability to adapt will be crucial. New signing Christopher Nkunku, who joined Milan from Chelsea in a significant deal, offers flexibility across various attacking positions.

Nkunku could complement Leao well, either sitting behind him alongside Christian Pulisic or forming a two-man front line with the Portuguese star.

Santiago Gimenez adds further depth to Milan’s attack, giving Allegri a range of options for different scenarios. With Leao, Nkunku, and Gimenez in the mix, Milan’s attacking lineup is shaping up to be a potent force.

Leao’s performance in the preseason against Liverpool impressed Allegri, who praised the player’s abilities. “Leao did very well as a centre-forward, as did the whole team, which is working well in this pre-season,” Allegri said. The coach believes Leao is at the right age for a big season, and his confidence in the player could be a key factor in Milan’s success.
